Upkeeper Unravels Problems at Twisting Plant

As a result of their Cleaning Assessment Program, Upkeeper Corporation was able to solve problems for Mohawk Carpet at one of their twisting plants

Mohawk’s twisting machines are mounted very close to the floor, offering only 1 or 2 inches of clearance for the maintenance staff. As the twisting process progresses there is a steady accumulation of fiber under the machinery. Since a single plant may have hundreds of twisting machines arranged in rows across the plant floor, it is often necessary to assign two or three maintenance workers and entire 8-hour shift cleaning out the fibers.
As part of Upkeeper’s free Cleaning Assessment Program, Mohawk contacted Upkeeper’s engineers about this problem. With the cooperation of Mohawk’s maintenance department, Upkeeper was able to develop special tools that allowed workers to get under the machinery and clear out the accumulated fibers. Using the Voyager Turbo Transformer heads and a custom right angle crevice tool, the workers are able to walk along the twisting machines and collect and bag the fibers. These tools have proven useful to other industries beyond textiles. They have been supplied to UPS for use in their package terminals, to dry cleaners, and to many others. The response to the Upkeeper Cleaning Assessment Program has been tremendous and has resulted in many product improvements to the Upkeeper product line.
